Canva Pro vs Business for a One-Person Business

A single designer's desk beside a shared desk with a larger brand library and an approval stamp

For one person, Canva Pro is the default paid plan: it unlocks background removal, Magic Resize, scheduling, brand templates and five Brand Kits, and its yearly price is a much bigger discount than Business’s. Choose Business only if clients must approve designs inside Canva, you need more than five Brand Kits, or someone else needs their own login, because only one person can use a Pro account.

What each plan costs one person

Canva’s pricing page shows prices by country; the US figures are below. Canva also sells Enterprise, which is quoted by sales and aimed at large organizations.

Canva pricing page with the US country setting, read November 2, 2026. USD before tax.
Plan Billed yearly Billed monthly Twelve months on monthly billing
Free $0 $0 $0
Pro $144 a year, one person $18 a month $216
Business $250 a year per person $25 a month per person $300

The page labels yearly billing as saving “from 16%”. By our arithmetic, Pro’s yearly price is about a third less than paying monthly, while Business saves about 17%. Moving from Pro to Business costs $106 more a year on yearly billing, or $7 more a month on monthly billing.

Where Free stops working

Canva’s plan comparison marks a long list of tools as Pro and above. For solo marketing work, these are the ones that usually force the upgrade:

  • Background removal for product photos and headshots.
  • Magic Resize, which turns one design into the sizes each network needs.
  • The Social Content Planner for scheduling posts from Canva.
  • Brand templates and more Brand Kits. Free has one Brand Kit; Pro has five.
  • Storage and print. Free has 5GB and no print-ready CMYK export; Pro has 100GB and CMYK export.

Pro also raises the shared AI allowance; Canva describes Pro as having ten times the AI use of Free. Our guide to Canva AI for solo marketing explains how that allowance is counted and what the AI tools can and cannot do.

What Business adds for a one-person business

Canva says Business is “designed for both individuals and small teams”. In the comparison, these features are Business-only among the three plans:

  • Approvals. A client or partner can approve a design inside Canva.
  • Team members and roles. You can invite people, assign roles and transfer ownership. Canva’s FAQ says you pay only for members who accept an invitation.
  • Brand Controls and up to 100 Brand Kits, useful once you manage more than five client brands.
  • More storage and AI. 500GB, and twice Pro’s AI allowance.
  • Extras. Access to Flourish for data visualization, ad tagging with Canva Grow, team-only links, reports and elevated support priority.

The rule that decides most solo cases

A door with a single key next to a door with two name tags

Canva’s FAQ is direct: “Only one person can use a Canva Pro account.” If a virtual assistant, a contractor or a client needs their own login to edit, Pro is not built for it, and handing over your own login also weakens your account security. Business is the plan for a second person.

If clients only need to look and comment, you may not need Business. The comparison shows link sharing and comments on every plan; it is formal approvals and team logins that require Business.
